St Andrews Day

St Andrews Day, a day for Scots to unite and celebrate our nation and its culture. Or so we thought! Some people could help but use the day as an opportunity to attack the Government

First this ridiculous notation that the SNP has somehow claimed ownership of the Saltire. The fact is it's Scotland’s flag it’s there for all Scots to use regardless of what political persuasions they have, I wish the other parties would use it more.

But they can’t be two faced on this matter, if they want to "re-claim" the Saltire why didn’t they stand up for it when it was banned from the Olympics, and why do they consider it "pety and narrowminded" to want to fly Scotland's flag over Scotland's capital city? It seems the Saltire is good enough to be used as a recruiting tool for the Army but not worthy to be flown from Edinburgh Castle.

Next up was the doom and gloom double act, Annabel Goldie and Iain Gray. The leaders of the British Unionist parties made typically negative comments to the youth wings of their respective parties on St Andrews Day. They’re constant addiction to talking Scotland down is the reason that so many young people have abandoned these parties and flocked to the positive politics on offer by the SNP. Young people don’t want to hear doom and gloom from Goldie and Gray, they want to engage with parties who are optimistic for the future, who offer fresh thinking and a new approach and who have the policies to deliver on the issues that really matter.

The SNP are committed to lowering the voting age to 16 and giving our young people a voice to air their views. They are investing in youth projects around the country to improve the quality and life chances of young people and because we want our young people to get the best start in life we have delivered policies to cut class sizes, to introduce free school meals and to make education free once more.

Young people want to live in a country that is safe and where they have opportunities. While the SNP would rather invest in them and in their future, Labour and the Tories would rather squander billions of pounds on waging war, on unnecessary ID cards and in stockpiling nuclear weapons!

I doubt any young person will be fooled by this unionist scaremongering because our young people are independent in mind and spirit, they know that the union has held Scotland back for too long. They know they have the power to be our independence generation and that they can change Scotland for the better.
